To ensure optimal results, follow these steps for surface preparation before applying Osmo TopOil:

  1. Clean the wood surface: Make sure the wood surface is clean, dry, and free from frost. The moisture content should not exceed 18%.
  2. Stir well: Osmo TopOil is ready to use and should not be thinned. Before application, stir the product thoroughly to ensure proper consistency.
  3. Remove old stains, paints, and lacquers: Thoroughly clean any existing microporous stains. Completely remove old paints and lacquers. It is recommended to wear a dust mask during sanding works. For small cracks, larger joints, or holes in the wood, use Osmo Wood Filler.
  4. Sand wood surfaces: Carefully sand the wood surfaces, starting with coarse sandpaper and progressing to finer grades. For furniture, use P150-240 grit sandpaper (depending on the wood species). For absorbent hardwoods like Oak or Beech used in kitchen worktops, use a final sanding grade of P120. For very absorbent woods like Pine, sand up to a maximum of P150.
  5. Special consideration for dark and extractive-rich woods: For woods such as Iroko, Teak, Mahogany, Sapele, Wenge, Merbau, Jatoba, Cedar, it is recommended to use Osmo Wood Wax Finish Clear Extra Thin. Conduct a trial application for best results.
  6. Remove sanding dust: Before oiling the surface, ensure that all sanding dust is removed using a soft brush or a vacuum cleaner.
  7. Trial application: Keep in mind that the finished surface is influenced by various factors, including the condition of the wood. Therefore, it is always recommended to conduct a trial application, especially on unfamiliar surfaces.

Method of Application:

Follow these application instructions for optimal results when applying Osmo TopOil:

  1. Apply the first coat thinly: Using an Osmo Microfibre Roller, Flat Brush, or Oil Finish Applicator Fleece, apply the first coat thinly along the direction of the wood grain.
  2. Allow drying time: Let the first coat dry for approximately 8-10 hours. Ensure good ventilation during the drying process.
  3. Apply the second coat: Apply the second coat using an Oil Finish Applicator Fleece or a lint-free cloth. Avoid covering the surface during drying and curing. The surface will be fully cured within 2-3 weeks.
  4. Renovations: For renovation projects, a single coat applied to a clean and dry surface with an Oil Finish Applicator Fleece or a lint-free cloth is usually sufficient.

By following these surface preparation and application guidelines, you can achieve the best possible outcome when using Osmo TopOil for your wooden surfaces.
