To prepare the wood surface for the application of Osmo Polyx®-Oil Rapid, please follow these steps:
- Ensure that the wood surface is clean, dry, and free from frost. The maximum moisture content should be 18%.
- Osmo Polyx®-Oil Rapid is ready to use, so do not thin it. Before applying, stir the product well using a flat stirring stick or spatula to ensure proper consistency.
- Thoroughly clean any existing microporous stains on the wood surface. Remove old paints and lacquers completely. It is recommended to wear a dust mask during sanding to protect yourself.
- Fill small cracks, larger joints, or holes in the wood using Osmo Wood Filler.
- Sand the wood surface carefully, starting with coarse sandpaper. For flooring, use final sanding with P120-150 grit, and for furniture, use P180-240 grit. After sanding, remove the sanding dust using a broom or vacuum cleaner.
- Keep in mind that the finished appearance of the surface can be influenced by various factors, including the condition of the wood. Therefore, it is always advisable to perform a trial application, especially on unfamiliar surfaces.
For the application of Osmo Polyx®-Oil Rapid, follow these instructions:
- Use an Osmo Flat Brush, Osmo Microfibre Roller, or Floor Brush to apply the product thinly and evenly to the clean and dry wood, following the direction of the wood grain. Spread the oil well within 10-15 minutes, ensuring even coverage. Wipe away any excess product.
- Allow the first coat to dry for approximately 4-5 hours under good ventilation.
- After drying, apply a second coat of Osmo Polyx®-Oil Rapid thinly and quickly. Avoid covering the surface during drying and curing.
- After 2-3 weeks, the surface will be fully cured.
When renovating or recoating an already oiled surface, usually one coat applied to the clean and dry surface is sufficient.
By following these surface preparation and application guidelines, you can effectively apply Osmo Polyx®-Oil Rapid to protect and enhance your wood surfaces.
