Tung Oil, also known as China Wood Oil, is a natural and non-toxic oil that has been used for centuries to protect and enhance wood surfaces. It is particularly well-suited for applications on kitchen worktops, furniture, and both interior and exterior wood surfaces.

Tung Oil is known for its slow drying characteristics, allowing it to deeply penetrate the wood fibers and provide long-lasting protection. When applied, it imparts a resilient and matte lustre to the wood, enhancing its natural beauty.

Overall, Tung Oil offers a natural and resilient finish for wood surfaces, bringing out their inherent beauty while providing protection against daily wear and tear.

  • Surface Preparation: Ensure the wood surface is clean, dry, and free from any dust, dirt, or previous coatings. Sand the wood lightly to create a smooth and even surface.
  • Application: Stir the Tung Oil thoroughly before and during use to maintain consistency. Apply a thin and even coat using a lint-free cloth, brush, or sponge. Work the oil into the wood in the direction of the grain. Allow the oil to penetrate for approximately 20 minutes.
  • Remove Excess Oil: After the penetration time, wipe away any excess oil using a clean cloth. It is essential to remove any pooling or standing oil to achieve an even finish.
  • Drying Time: Tung Oil has a slow drying time, and it may take several days or even weeks to fully cure. Ensure proper ventilation during the drying process.
  • Additional Coats: If desired, additional coats of Tung Oil can be applied. Allow the previous coat to dry completely before applying the next one. Typically, 2-3 coats are sufficient to achieve the desired level of protection and lustre.
  • Maintenance: Tung Oil provides a durable finish, but periodic maintenance is recommended. Clean the surface with a mild, non-abrasive cleanser and a damp cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners that can damage the oil finish.

Note: Proper ventilation is crucial during application and drying. Dispose of oil-soaked rags properly, as they can pose a fire hazard due to their slow drying nature. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions and safety precautions when working with Tung Oil.
