Creating a perfect outdoor sanctuary might be pricey, but it is well worth the expense for mental and physical health. The construction materials, as well as the design and style of your outdoor decking, are all important factors to consider when planning to build this outdoor oasis.
Exterior hardwood or softwood – natural, organic materials may endure for up to 50 years if properly maintained.
How to properly maintain a wood decking?
To some people, taking care of a wood decking may seem like a lot of work. It might be off-putting to think about sanding and applying base and topcoats annually. But we are happy to inform you – that is not the case with Osmo wood stain.
Natural oil-based decking wood stain from Osmo delivers a pain-free solution with no sanding between or after coats. After a two-coat application, it can be maintained with an occasional spray.
The active agents in the oil-based deck stain prevent mildew, fungus, and algae from developing by allowing the material to breathe while absorbing into hardwood or softwood.
With and without UV resistance
If you prefer a natural appearance, consider decking oil-based wood tones or a simple oil stain. These will allow the grain to show through and maintain a natural look. There are a variety of colors to pick from when it comes to matching the decking’s wood. If you opt for the stain without UV protection, when natural wood fades, it typically becomes grey/silver in color.
Alternatively, if you want to connect the inside living area with the outdoors and choose a natural wood stain oil color that compliments or contrasts with the interior décor, it is possible. You may choose Osmo stains that give your timber a long-lasting, high UV resistance that significantly slows down the aging process and results in fresher wood color.

- Extremely resistant to weather and UV rays.
How to apply Osmo Natural Oil Wood stain?
Preparation
- The decking surface must be clean, dry, and free of frost – moisture content must not exceed 20%.
- The oil is now ready to be used. Please do not thin the substance. Before using, thoroughly stir it.
- If at all feasible, apply the first coat to all sides before installation.
- Clean the microporous stains thoroughly. Paint and lacquer must be totally removed.
The condition of the wood has a major impact on the finished surface, which is influenced by a variety of factors. As a result, even for familiar surfaces, a test application is generally necessary.
If extra protection against dampness, decay, and pests is wanted, Osmo WR Base Coat should be applied to the wood on all sides.
Application
With an Osmo Flat Brush or Microfibre Roller, thinly cover the wood grain and spread evenly. Dry for about 4-6 hours under good ventilation, and after that, apply a second layer.
For renovation jobs, one coat applied to a clean and dry surface is usually enough.
Colours
Transparent colors are affected by the natural color of the wood and may differ from the sample colors. For surfaces exposed to strong sunshine, pigment-based paints are better because they offer more UV protection.
To extend the life of the decking finish, apply one final top coat of Osmo UV Protection Oil Extra 420 Clear after completely drying. Though it is not recommended for White 900.
The colour tones in hardwoods are made up of water-soluble coloured extractives that may leach out naturally as the wood matures. All color tints may be combined together.
Other information
Osmo Natural Oil Woodstain is only to be used in outdoor settings since it contains biocides.
The active components help to prevent and/or delay algae and fungal growth. Two applications are required for efficient protection. Permanent resistance to algae and fungal infection can’t be provided by current technological developments.
Power washers will drastically lessen the finish’s coverage and general or multi-purpose cleaners will require more frequent maintenance and recoating.
